Summer activities are in full swing in the Pickup Household. I thought I'd share one activity that was so fun last year that we had to do it again...edible playdough. Warning...this can get messy!
Here's the recipe:
- 1/2 cup butter (no substitutes)
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 6 tablespoons cocoa
- 3/4 cup powdered milk
- 3 cups powdered sugar
Now you're ready for some fun. If the playdough gets too sticky, just add a little powdered sugar to your work surface.
We pulled out the rolling pin, animal shaped cookie cutters, and plastic spatulas. I left the kids alone to play for a little while, and this is what I found:
Happy, silly kids...
Who were literally sugared up!

Never seen this recipe before...Great job! The kids look like they had a blast!
Come follow me back and say hi :)
Awhile back I saw this for sale on a lame geek website my husband loves. ;) I searched for a recipe and couldn't find one! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!! I'll make sure to do this on a day my husband is home. :) You know, so I don't have to deal with sugar high kids myself :) haha. LOVE IT!
Mmmm- looks good and entertaining! I'm excited to try it!
Yum! Forget the kids, I want to try eating it myself:-) Think I might do what Deidre suggested, leave the recipe for a day when my husband is at home to help me deal with the children. A great post!

I came across your site by accident and I just loved your blog!
Hope you have a happy weekend!

Great idea! What could be more fun to a kid than to be able to eat their playdough when they are done with their creations.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
coming over from craftiness is not optional. i just wanted to say i'll be following your blog, i love your ideas. i was just going to do a post about edible play ideas! i have made the penaut butter play dough but not this chocolate one. thanks for sharing!
I LOVE this idea. My little girl has Celiac so she can't play with a lot of play doughs. Now she can not only play with some she can eat it too! Thank you for sharing. I think you should link up at some Gluten free blogs. It would be really helpful. I might put a link on my sight if you don't mind. This is very exciting!
Love the idea but I'm woundering does it matter if it's stick butter or tub butter?

@Jessica RavertIt needs to be real stick butter. Tub stuff won't work. :)
