My favorite lights

Finding lighting for our house was exciting.  I had only $1000 allowance in our budget to work with, and so I had to get creative in the sources I used.

Early on in designing how I wanted our home to look (see my new house pinterest board for more good ideas!), I saw these gorgeous Rustic Glass Pendants from Pottery Barn.  I just had to find a way to afford them!

eBay to the rescue.  I watched for months to find the best deal on these lights.  Finally, I found a seller whose price was $30 less than on PB's website, and was able to purchase three pendants for about $180.  Woot!!!  They were my most expensive per unit purchase.

The other lights in our great room were chosen to coordinate, most being purchased from an eBay store called Lights4Less4U.  This cute little Kichler chandy for the front entry...$15.

For over the dining area, another Kichler chandelier for only $55.

These little lanterns over the stairs are actually outdoor lights, but who would know?  They were in a two pack for $22.

We wanted a ceiling fan in our living room and master bedroom, and I found a great deal on two through another eBay seller, which included free remote controls.  :)

The wall sconces for next to our beds were only $25 each.

In our bathroom, I wanted a vintage feel with chrome lights and accents.  And they were a bargain at $59 for three.

And finally, a fun industrial pendant for the girls' room {which will someday by my sewing room!} for only $25.

I'm also happy to report there are no "builder" lights in our house.  A lot of our lighting is provided by recessed can lights, which although a little tricky to install, are actually really inexpensive.  They didn't count toward my $1000 budget, because there were included in our electrical rough-in and finished electrical budget.

Have any of you found something you just had to have for your home?

All great choices, Chris! What a bargain too. I loved your PB lights the moment I saw them. Figures. I tend to gravitate toward PB lighting. My 'had to have' light when we bought our house was a 5 arm pewter finish Pottery Barn chandelier above our dining table. I combed ebay for a month but I think I ended up purchasing direct when it was on sale. All I know is, I rarely pay full price for anything PB! I also 'had to have' a mercury glass pendant that's going in my kitchen. Other than that, all of my lights are less than $15...purchased before I knew that "boob lights" would be picked on by countless blogs! Oh well. They light my path just the same!...

Hey pretty lady. I thought of you tonight because Lizzy and I sat down to sew something together (a laughable endeavor, most definitely!) I love your blog. We were poking around the sewing 101 tips. Think I will spend more time here as I try to actually get my machine out of the box a little more often!! Miss you...hope we can see you next time we are up that way! :)

What a fun post. I love seeing all your lighting choices. Those PB-like lights are just perfect. And I think using the inexpensive outdoor lights inside is such a great idea.

I just noticed the chair rails in the kitchen/dining rooms as well. SO NICE!

It all looks fresh and lovely! When do you get to move in?
