Thoughts on a Saturday

So, it's finally happening.  We're really going to build a new house.  The building permit goes out next week, and soon there will be a large hole dug.  I'm so excited I've been window shopping for fixtures on ebay.  :)

Here's a rendering of the front elevation.  Never mind the shutters...picture wide trim around the windows.

And here is the main floor floor plan.

We designed the house based on the first home we built.  It was enlarged a bit, and a bedroom elminated to create the larger great room area, and a bigger bathroom for the master bedroom.  :)  There will be three future bedrooms downstairs, a large family room, a library/study, and a storage space.  All the mechanicals for the home will also be downstairs.  It will provide lots of projects to do for the foreseeable future.

We're still figuring out what we want for all the inside stuff...but at least we've got this part done, the appraisal is complete and the bank still likes us.  Haha.  It is so lovely to work with people that we know and trust.  We're going to be doing most of the framing, the electrical, and all the finish work ourselves.  I'll warn you now this blog may turn into a big building DIY blog for a while, but this is something we are grateful to be able to do, and will provide a wonderful home for our family for the rest of our lives.  And if you've stuck with me this far, my blog is more about creative family life, than just sewing.  And this is going to be a huge part of our lives for the next 8 months or so.

Here are some of our picks for the outside:

The shakes will be on the front gables, ship lap along most of the house, with board n batton siding along the front porch.  Wicker is a lovely tan color we could agree on.  :)  The trim and fascia will be white.  Shingles a very dark brown or grey.  Still deciding that one.  Front door will be similar to this (minus the sidelights), in a lovely red color.

There will be can lights over the porch, and I'm hoping to find lights similar to these for the garage.

I hope you enjoy following along on this journey with us.  I'll still be sewing and creating, especially for Christmas coming up and the new house, too.  :)

And just to show you another reason why I love the part of the world where I've been raised, you've got to see this lovely video.  The video was shot in Arizona and Utah, with a bit of California in there, too.  I love the West!  (p.s. watch it in HD on the full screen!)

Oh I am excited for this journey! Right up my alley :) I love the floor plan and what you are going to do with the outside. I did notice there isn't a powder room, did you find in your house before that it worked out ok without one? The bedrooms are good sized, lots of room to roam. Love the laundry room, spacious.

How exciting for you and your family, I love all your thoughts and choices thus far (I knew you would keep a red front door, yeah!). As much as this is exciting, it must be very stressful with so many choices to make up front. I do hope the winter is kind to you.
