Twine Pom Pom Garland Tutorial

I'm not sure if you remember or not, but a while back I discovered that cotton twine makes fantastic pom poms with really fun texture.

I figured out a way to make my new favorite pom pom into a garland for our Christmas tree.  Want to try one too?
These are simple, I promise.  After the first few, I think these are pretty quick to put together.

Step one.  Gather your supplies.
All you need is a spool of cotton twine, a fork, and some sharp scissors.

And some patience.

Step two.  To start, figure out how long you want your garland to be.  Cut a length of twine to that length.

Step three.  Make your pom poms.  You can see THIS tutorial as a reference, too.
I used my fork as a guide, and the distance from inside the tines to the end is the distance between each of the pom poms.  When you find where you want your pom pom, place the long twine in-between the tines as shown.

From your spool, wrap 30-40 times around the fork.

Now for the hard part...using the draped twine, form a knot around the wrapped twine.

Do not tighten your knot yet!  Slide the bundle oh so carefully off the fork tines, and THEN tighten your knot.

Tie a double knot for security.  Repeat for as many pom poms as you'd like.

Step four.  Snip and fluff.
Once you've wrapped and tied all the pom poms, carefully snip all the loops (not your long one!).

Fluff out and untwist each of the twine strands, and you've got a fun textured garland for your Christmas tree.    You may need to give the pom poms a bit of a trim if some of the lengths are longer than the rest.

Step five.  Drape the pom poms along your tree.

I am tickled with how they turned out.

We've been having fun decking the halls and listening to our favorite Christmas tunes.  I'll share some more pictures when the sun decides to shine.  We've had a wet last few days!

Are you adding anything new to your traditions this year?  What's your favorite Christmas music?  Do tell!

  2. I have to say, I love the Charlie Brown Christmas tunes! And I really like listening to upbeat Christmas music while baking, it changes the ambiance and makes you wanna get involved. Music is a game changer. I made a similar pom pom garland with yarn that was begging to made into something. I just used my hand and I tied the poms onto string to make it a garland. It actually went pretty fast.

  3. I love the texture of those Pom poms. Looks simple enough, even I can probably do it! I just finished my oversized ornament wreaths, that will do it for me hopefully for awhile on projects.
