Traveling with family is love in motion.
We wended our way through Utah, and for a change of pace took the "scenic" route through Las Vegas so we could show the kids (and dad) the Hoover Dam.
I hadn't been through this way since I was a child, and it is always impressive to see how engineering and nature meet.
For those of you who have read the Percy Jackson series, a quick snap shot in the car of the angel statues.
The new by-pass bridge is impressive to see. It's only been in use since 2010. The sad part is that you cannot see the dam when you drive the over the bridge.
Built in the 1930's, the Hoover Dam has classic Art Deco architecture. It is really beautiful...even the bathrooms are fancy.
After we drove over the bridge, we continued down to my grandparent's home in the Phoenix area. Here is my Granny and Papa.
The great-grands all together:
It was so nice to just enjoy one another's company, remember fun times, play games, and of course, eat too much. I loved catching up with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. Plus, spending time with my parents and brothers and their families. Our entire family on my dad's side was gathered together. We are truly blessed to have a wonderful family.
I hinted that I've still been struggling with my health in my last post. I recently found that I have Type 1 or Adult-onset Juvenille Diabetes, not the Type 2 we originally thought it was. With that comes a little more flexibility with my diet, but also more rigid treatment and regular insulin injections. It's been a new struggle, but one I am confident I can overcome. At least I got to have a little more of the traditional Thanksgiving fixings...including my Papa's cornbread stuffing. :)
I am so thankful for my supportive family, for good doctors, for so many blessings. Anytime I feel discouraged, I try to count my blessings and recognize all the good in my life. It's the best cure I've found yet.
The Hoover Dam is quite impressive isn't it? I had no idea it came with its own bathrooms even!
ReplyDeleteYou are blessed to be so close to your family. It must be a nice thing to have that kind of support system. And your grandparents must be so proud of their sweet grandkids. That's a beautiful picture of them together!
It looks like you had a fantastic time with your family. What sweet photos!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that the doctor's are figuring out your health issues. I imagine the process isn't an easy one. You have such a great attitude. (P.S. Isn't cornbraed stuffing the best?!)
I didn't know you had family in Phoenix! That's fun you guys were able to travel down there for Thanksgiving. When we lived in AZ we watched them build that bridge while traveling back and forth to Vegas and Utah. We moved back in 2008 so we never saw it finished. :) It's fun to see your pictures.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that you have been struggling with your health. I'm happy for you that you got to have some of your "Papa's cornbread stuffing." :)
I'm so glad you had such a wonderful Thanksgiving, Chris. And I'm so sorry to hear of your new diagnosis. I can't imagine having to do the insulin injections and all the changes that come along with that. Sending hugs your way :)
ReplyDelete@Amy CYep, Amy I was raised in Arizona until my junior year in high school, although it's change significantly since then!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your well wishes.
