First Day of School 2012

It's official...school is back in session.

I'd have shared this a couple days ago...but after finally getting a computer to get me through, our internet connection went nuts.  Finally, I have a reliable connection, so here goes!
I was a little misty eyed sending my first grader to school all day, and my oldest son to junior high...but all is well.  They are settling into a new routine, and Dolly and I are finding our new normal.

After the kids were whisked away on the bus, the puppies were a little sad, and the house felt a lot empty.

It's a work in progress.

So many of you left kind words after my last post.  I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I'm happy to report that my vision improved quickly as I brought my blood sugar down, and it has reversed to the point that my glasses are now too strong!  I can't wait till this all settles down a bit more.  The drastic change in diet is an adjustment.  You'll probably see my new pinterest board fill up with low carboydrate food ideas.  Until then, I"m working through it.  I hope that I can eventually manage my diabetes without medication.  I'm exercising twice a day, and being really good with my diet.  I do get teary, however when I read through all the wonderful dessert recipes  in my cookbook that I can never have again.

Having no computer, I was able to get some sewing in. (I think I've been in denial about how much time I'm online.) I made these two Buster Bibs, one a special order from my neglected etsy shop:

The other for a new niece who will be making her debut in October.

I also made some outfits for Big Sister...you can almost see her Oliver + S Ice Cream top under her backpack in the photo above.  I need to get some better photos taken!

Another big project we've tackled is finishing a bedroom downstairs for Big Sis.  We were given some free drywall...so it was a no brainer.  This time, the dry wall is all us.  Mr. Pickup has hung it all, and I'm taping and finishing the texture.  Wish me luck!

I hope the new school year is treating you well.  I've missed blogging and reading what you're up to.  I must confess I was overwhelmed by my google reader, and deleted many posts...it was just too much.  So, what have you been up to?

It is lovely to have you back, and know that you are feeling better. That's fantastic!!
I'm sure life will get back to normal soon, and you'll feel much better.

And yes I agree with you, too much time online, but.... there's so many beautiful things and people around, it's hard to not see what they are up to.

Welcome back, and have a great end of the week x

How did I miss that - I need to back up and find it!! Wow!!

It is neat to see them off and running leaving your new house - the puppies do indeed look sad. :(

Sewing is the best therapy of all... for sending the little ones off to school and other curve balls thrown by life...

I am soooo glad you have some immediate improvement to your vision, you are in my daily prayers Chris. Such a beautiful photo of your children's first day, and those pups, squeal. My lab 'pup" turned nine years couple of weeks ago. A house is not a home without one.

The improvement in your vision was fast, so happy for you. I like how you said you and Dolly are trying to find your new normal. Summer is way too short. Carter has out grown most of his bibs, including that adorable one you made him, but I saved it for his sibling one day. I hope you got a chance to check out Lindsay's blog, she just posted a cookie recipe today that her husband gave rave reviews which is huge. Can't wait to see the new bedroom!

God is so good. All smiles here for you. My husband is predisposed diabetic, from both sides of the family so he is working hard to manage his diet and keep it at bay. We are finding so many things to affect our health in this "middle" age stage of life. I hope you are finding sewing therapeutic, I am aching for a new baby in our family, just one to cuddle a bit. But crafting will have to do :)

I'm so glad you're adjusting to the new diet but, yes, I can imagine there will be a mourning period. We get used to things... Maybe these new foods will become another creative outlet for you, along with the sewing.

I hear you about keeping up with all the blog news. I'm of the opinion that we do what we can. That's why I took the month of August off. A girl's gotta breathe! Right now I'm thinking you have bigger fish to fry. So, no worries at all Chris, just take care of yourself.
