Treats for school? Let's bring cookies.

I've found a new-to-me cookie recipe I had to share. Today is my son's turn for taking treats to kindergarten. All he wanted to bring was cookies. Thankfully we're back to sanity land where I can make homemade treats and bring them to school.

I wanted to try this recipe because it's about as healthy as the granola bars you purchase at the grocery store, but baked fresh with no preservatives.

You can find the original recipe on the back of Nestle Chocolate Chip packages.   I'm sharing my version, with a few modifications.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups quick oats
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

  • Beat the butter together until it is soft. Add the sugars and cream together with the butter. Add the eggs and vanilla, and mix well. Incorporate the baking soda and salt. Slowly beat in the flour. Scrape sides, then add the oatmeal. Mix well, and then stir in the chocolate chips.

Drop by small tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet, bake at 375 for 9 minutes.  Makes about 60 cookies.

Don't they look yummy?  Too bad I've started my sugar reduction program.  I didn't even have a taste!   I think they passed, according to my test subject.

Hopefully they're a hit with the whole class.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. My favourite cookie of all time. They look super-delectable. Oh how I wish I could reach into the screen. But alas, no. Sigh. :)
