Even bigger painting project

I could hardly wait to show you this.  The people who owned this house previously would leave their dog in the downstairs half bath.  It was a big dog, and it didn't like being in the bathroom.  Can you tell?
We had to replace the bottom pieces, recaulking it as needed.  I repaired the chipped and scraped paint by sanding, smoothing with spackle, and then priming and painting the door.  I used cabinet and trim paint from Sherwin Williams in a lovely white called alabaster.

Everything that I repainted had to be sanded and primed since I was painting over oil-based paint.  I used a foam roller to keep it as smooth as possible.
Love the trash can and toddler toilet seat in the background?

I had to take my little girl to an appointment, and forgot to cover the paint left in my tray.  So, when I got home, I had to do something with that paint...it's not cheap!  I remembered seeing Dana's powder room on House Tweaking, I decided to copy her.  I hurried to find a toilet paper roll and got to work.
After I got it done, I decided I needed a little pop of color so I randomly added turquoise and lime green centers in a few of the circles.  I used about a tablespoon of glaze with a drop of craft paint, and they almost look like glass tiles.

This bathroom is so much brighter.  We're hoping to make a couple floating shelves to add some storage over the toilet.

With the rest of thickened white paint, I decided to update the mirror by our front door.  The frame was originally gold.  My husband found it in a dumpster when he worked at the mall.  I spray painted it black and got a mirror made for the frame.  Here's what it used to look like:

It was time for an update!  I painted it white, and then glazed it with some brown.  A bit of the white paint rubbed off as I wiped off the glaze...and it looks shabby, chippy, and happy.

I added a couple coats of poly.

Hi there!
I'm so happy that this house is starting to feel like our home.  I think I am completely converted from black accents to white.

I love the tp roll circles! What a great idea! I'm looking to jazzz up my master bedroom, but don't want to paint the entire thing out of pure laziness. This could be just the ticket to liven it up a bit! Thanks for sharing@

The mirror looks fantastic! I have a lot of black in my house, but I'm starting to go with more white, too. The TP circles look so neat on the wall. Love the little pops of color... nice job!
