Sundance Catalog Inspired Clock Revamp

Sometimes things just turn out like you hope.  This is one of those projects!

What a difference paint can make.
My color palette for our home has evolved over time, and I've been slowly removing a lot of the red decor I've had around.  I saw this fun clock on pinterest via my friend Melissa from the Sundance Catalog, and knew it would be a perfect way to make over a large wall clock I painted several years ago.

Here's the clock in question.  It was a lovely rustic red, with vinyl stickers for all the markings.  You can partially see it in this photo (one of the first I posted on this blog!):

It was really in need of a makeover!

When we were painting the trim in Big Sister's room.  I sanded the clock down and added a coat of white trim paint.  It sat that way for a couple weeks.

Tuesday I finally had some time to finish the clock.  It only took a couple hours.

I started by carefully measuring where I wanted the typography to go, then sketching things out in pencil.

Next, I carefully removed most of the vinyl, revealing the red finish underneath.

This took a while!

Once the vinyl was removed, I used craft acrylic paint, mixing orange with black, to paint all the lettering.  When the kids came home from school, they wanted to help.

Once the lettering was finished, I mixed a little more orange and water to the remaining paint, and added some distressing.

 Little boy helped me add a coat of glossy varnish, and Big Sis helped add a coat of brown paint along the sides.

Here is the final product, waiting for everything to dry.

I was so excited to add the clock works and hang the clock up!

I love that we have a fun new statement in our dining area.

Now just to decide what I want to hang on the other side of the clock...
