Cardboard Monograms

What can I say?...cardboard is free.  After we painted the boys' room, I wanted to do something fun to decorate and personalize the space.  So, I made simple mongrams for each boy.  All I used was a cereal box, some craft foam I had on hand to give it some dimension, and spray paint left from a previous project.

After sketching out my design on the cereal box, I cut out the letter shapes with my exacto knife.

Then I traced the letter onto the foam, and cut it out, smaller than the tracing.

Tacky glue is my friend.  I glued the foam and cardboard together.

Then added some weight until the glue dried.  I  may or may not have sat on that pile of books.

I laid out the letters and sprayed 3 coats of paint.  The letter placement was completely coincidental.  After the letters dried and aired out for a day, they were hung with poster tack.

One more parting shot.  The stripe really looks great, and hides the remnants of the wall paper border perfectly.  The teddy lamp was a gift to my firstborn for his nursery...and I just can't part with it.
