The Second Easter Dress

In case you were wondering, I did get Sister's dress finished.  With help from my mom who was up for a quick visit over her spring break from teaching.

The dress is based on Leila and Ben's Sweet Dress pattern in size 10, and the band design came from my Banded Peasant top pattern.
I was inspired by a little dress one of the children in our Sunday School was wearing.  It is made from a soft, flowy woven coral plaid I found for a great deal on fabric.com.  (Not an affiliate link...just sharing!)

I reduced the size of the bands by 1/2".  I liked the smaller width for this dress.   I also just hand stitched everything in place on the back, and didn't topstitch this time.

The bow was made by cutting a 2.5" wide bias strip, and then sewing it together and topstitching.  It's held in place from inside the dress with a safety pin to make washing a cinch.

I got the dress cut out and realized it needed a subtle bit of color, and so I whipped together some piping with some pale yellow percale and cotton twine.

The dress buttons down the back with eleven buttons.  To make the placket, just cut two halves of the dress back, adding 2.5 " to the center.  I also put a 1" strip of interfacing down each side of the dress back.  My awesome mom sewed all those buttons on for me after I sewed the button holes.  :)

I would love to know if you've tried my banded peasant blouse pattern...or a variation of it.  (I also made another version for Dolly's birthday last summer) I highly recommend the Leila and Ben pattern to use with my banded pattern.  It came together really well, and actually fits better in the armpit/ sleeve area than my other version.
