Some weekend sewing...

If you've read my blog for a bit, you know that sewing is a way I that I deal with stress (I realize this makes me a bit unusual).  As I listen to the soothing sounds of my sewing machine, my heart stops it's frantic beat. My mind slows down a bit as it concentrates on even stitches.  Here is what I made on Saturday:


The dress is the Jump Rope Dress, View A from Oliver + S.  I made View B for my girls last summer, just before we moved.  I loved the fun details on this dress.  The fabric is Henry Glass Doll Babies, Red Daisy Dot.  I purchased it with my winnings from Fat Quarter Shop via The Southern Institute...happy birthday to me!  :)


My favorite part of all, this fits Big Sis perfectly!  The drop waist hits just in the right spot, the length is ideal, and it was easy on and off.  Win, win, win.


I am so grateful for my sewing abilities, and the joy it infuses in my life.  It's a huge reason why I started Sewing 101, so that I can infect others with the need to sew.  (Insert wicked little laugh.)  I have also rediscovered Jane Eyre.  I read the book in high school, and had completely forgotten the plot.  I picked up the audiobook at our library, and have been totally enthralled (my husband might say a bit obsessed!)  The version I've borrowed is read by Josephine Bailey...and she is fantastic.  She altered her voice perfectly to portray each character.  I may always hear the book in her voice from now on when I read it.  So, I sewed and listened to Jane Eyre, and took a break from my worries on Saturday.  It was bliss.

    I love this pattern!The dress is beautiful! Too funny that I started this dress this weekend too but I have to make the pockets and skirt still. I am wanting to make the view B for this fall too.

    Chris, I love that dress! I have been wanting to try this pattern, but I haven't bought it yet. It looks adorable on your daughter! Great job. So cool that you used your giveaway winnings too! :)

    I love Jane Eyre too. What a great idea to listen to a book while you sew. I hate having to choose between reading and sewing. That way you can do both! And that dress is really sweet, by the way.

    Adorable dress! It reminds me of when I was a child and my mother made all of my play clothes. I used to think I had the coolest clothes because no one had the same clothes as me! Thanks for posting, it's inspiring me to finish a dress I started awhile back.

    sewing and listening to Jane Eyre, complete bliss in a moment of stress. Jane is one of my favourite literary characters.

    The jump rope dress turned out beautiful, as is the model!

    You are amazing the way you sew when you're stressed. I'm trying to think of all the things I'd love to want to do when I'm stressed (but don't!!)....I'm thinking cleaning, tidying and washing up would be a great start!!!

    If I sew when I'm stressed, the seam ripper comes out over and over again. The dress is adorable, Chris. Really nice fabric choice. Glad you had such a great weekend :)

    I've been a little hesitant to get into clothes but I love that you can control the length/fit, since we can rarely find something in the store that works for our definition of "appropriate" any more! It turned out great!

    I really need to do some stress-relief, escape-from-the-kids sewing, but it's not going to happen this weekend!
