Playing with Color

I help teach a preschool co-op with 5 other moms in  my neighborhood.  We rotate weekly, teaching twice a week.  I have been so grateful to all the wonderful ideas that I find in blogland.  I thought I'd share some of the fun things we've been doing, with links so you can try it yourself.

I'll go backwards chronologically.  This week, one of our themes was spring.  I saw this egg carton spring wreath, and thought it would be fun to try with our preschool.  I scaled it down, making small cardboard circles and spray painting them green ahead of time.  Instead of using colored egg cartons, I cut up the cardboard one I had on hand, and let the kids paint the insides to make flowers.  I showed them how to twist crepe paper to make a different type of flower.  They had a lot of fun.  I got out the pompoms, and they decorated their flowers and wreaths.
And yes, I cover our table with paper before we do this kind of activity!

For St. Patrick's Day, we made rainbow wind catchers.  I was so grateful for Cheryl's post.  I'd been struggling with what to do with the kids that day.  I kept it pretty simple.  We painted rainbows based on the color paint I had on hand,  and the colors of crepe paper I could find after going to TWO different stores.  Here are our rainbows, hanging proudly in the play room.  I made one ahead of time so the kids had an example to follow.  Can you guess which one is Baby's?

Love the fun fan garland?  I found the idea on My Girlish Whims.  Rebecca is a darling.  I actually won a giveaway on her blog for lovely rose quartz necklace and earrings.

This is what you see when you come up our stairs.  Complete happy color.  :)

Another great project, were these fun paper dolls.  (I'd seen them on Skip to My Lou last summer.  Thank goodness for bookmarks.)  The letter for the day was "U".  I thought it was hilarious to have these paper dolls in their underwear who needed to be dressed.  The kids colored their dolls, and I'd cut out fabric clothes to dress them.  It was fun.  Then we put the dolls under the umbrella.  Thank you, letter "U". .
Sorry for the cell phone photo...I forgot to pull out the real one.
The unifying theme, for me, was exploring color with our preschoolers.  It is so fun to see them learn and ideas form.  I love the chance I have to teach my son and his friends.
